The challenge

Define the real constraint

Large projects divide work into packages, while the refinery ultimately has to operate as one system. Interfaces between new and existing equipment carried risk for stability, maintainability and product quality.

The work

Turn intent into delivery

Michael worked across design, optimisation, commissioning and operations interfaces. Bayer-circuit knowledge helped connect decisions in digestion, evaporation, filtration, calcination and lime preparation.

Perspective

Why this project matters

Project teams leave, but operators live with what is built for decades. Designing for the people who inherit the plant, so that it is safer to run, easier to control and honest about its limits, is a duty owed to them rather than a preference. A capital program is only truly successful if the workforce is better off the day after handover.
