The challenge

Define the real constraint

The refinery joined digestion, evaporation, utilities, calcination and port operations. Improving one area in isolation could simply move a constraint or create instability elsewhere.

Michael combined operating observations with statistical and root-cause analysis, then built cross-functional attention around energy transfer and integration opportunities. Clear communication connected technical work with shift execution.

Why this project matters

A fifteen per cent energy saving is a permanent reduction in what the refinery takes from the environment, achieved without asking anyone to produce less. Gains of that kind belong to the whole workforce, because they come from operators, tradespeople and engineers being trusted with the reasoning rather than handed instructions.
