Producing more from the same ore and the same energy is a form of stewardship. It honours the finite value of what has already been mined and keeps the environmental cost of production from rising with output. It also respects the people on shift, whose judgement turns an idea into a result, by giving them control they can actually use rather than complexity they must work around.
